Here are the most popular searches for best ringtones. Maybe these are just what you're looking for too...

Ringtone

A ring tone is the sound made by a telephone to indicate an incoming call. The term, however, is most often used to refer to the customisable sounds available on mobile phones. This facility was originally provided so that people would be able to determine when their phone was ringing when in the company of other mobile phone owners.

Ringtones are more popular among women - 54 percent compared to 42 percent of men. Personalized ringtones also are more appealing to women.

According to a new research from Xingtone.co.uk, the nowadays UK teenagers will spend on average £4,320 on downloading ringtones to their mobile phones over the next fifteen years. Girls represent 85 per cent of those surveyed saying that they download ringtones regularly. Only 60 per cent of boys are taking advantage of this technology. The girls most hooked are aged between 10-14 years, with two out of three (65 per cent) downloading at least six ringtones per month. According to the same survey, 60 per cent would prefer to create their own ringtone rather than downloading one, highlighting a growing trend towards personalisation.

75 per cent were concerned about hidden costs of ringtone purchases, with 58 per cent fearful of being tied into a ringtone club. A total of 36 per cent reported being ripped off by providers at least once. Complaints ranged from being overcharged to receiving costly or inferior quality ringtones, such as polyphonics. With the ringtone market predicted to increase by 161% in the next five years there is a call for transparency as pricing is becoming a hot consumer issue.

Ringtones are no longer just for mobile phones. Favorite tunes can be used to alert Internet phone network users of incoming calls from now on, following the tie-up between Warner Music Group and Voice over Internet Protocol leader Skype. In the next few months Skype subscribers will be able to download ringtones from the stable of Warner\'s singers, including Madonna and Green Day that will play when VoIP users get an incoming call. By introducing ringtones, which have become such an integral part of having a mobile phone for many younger users in particular, Skype is aiming to expand its use to a wider audience.

Also, the latest mania about ringtones is that teens are staging a worldwide rebellion: downloading the sound, or another ring tone in using the Mosquito sound system, allows them to hear their cell phones ring when their parents and teachers (mostly) cannot. And the company that brought the Mosquito to market is being barraged by a new market of companies wanting to sell a line of subversive ring tones.
